What you say is what you are

If you have a Twitter or Facebook account, you've automatically gained a virtual persona – a representation of yourself in the social networking world. But what does it look like? One user may strategically 'tweet' about their booming social life on a daily basis (while omitting the embarrassment of their financial situation), others may make sure only photos of their best angle are present on their Facebook account (while untagging any that aren't up to scratch). Whether it's an accurate representation of your life or a superfluous facade, Bell Mobility have got the answer as to what your Social Portrait looks like – and have prizes for the best one, too.

The Social Portrait is formed by using Facebook and Twitter to construct an artistic profile picture unique to the user. The picture is created entirely of the words most often mentioned in these social profiles. Aside from users being able to customize, download and share their Social Portrait, the portrait with the most Facebook 'likes' wins the opportunity to be featured on billboards across Canada. "We had this insight that people are using [mobile devices] increasingly [for Twitter and Facebook], creating a virtual persona, and the things I create on Facebook and Twitter is a reflection of who I am," Jeremy Bell from Teehan + Lax says.

The Green Room Verdict: Targeted at people aged between 18–50, the Social Portrait idea is simple, smart and shareable. While the application is promoted through Facebook ads and a YouTube promo video, most of it's traffic will come from word of mouth and sharing portraits between friends. Application users are also reminded about the pro's of the Bell network while creating their Social Portrait.
