Smart cars are great for making our carbon footprint smaller, zipping into tight spaces, and playing games of 'pong'. You read right. This campaign by BBDO engaged visitors to play games of pong, or 'Smart eBall', with the new Damier vehicles. It's a very cool (and very fun) way of showing the control and acceleration of the smart car, both for those who were game enough to play and for those who chose to watch.
The idea was simply to showcase the responsiveness of the new, third generation, electric smart car. Launched at the September 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA), the campaign proved to be mighty popular with visitors and media alike. Participants signed in using their driver's license, were given brief instructions on forwarding and reversing, and then were thrust into battle against a secondary vehicle. The competition used laser measurement technology to judge the car's position.
The Green Room Verdict: Finally, the smart car has managed to break 'fun' into it's repertoire, and even achieved a world first – the first game ever invented that uses cars as the controllers. Although it is an unusual way of controlling a game, it's almost expected seeing as how popular (and unusual) gameification has become in engaging audiences. The nature of the game makes it a perfect demonstration of the car's capabilities.
