A new year brings new beginnings, but this new way of utilizing print advertising is pretty out there. 'Wired' magazine put something a bit special on shelves with their January issue. The first print advertisement of its kind for the Motorola Moto X surprised readers by allowing them to 'customize' the device's colour options. That's right – readers can view the different product colours by pressing the swatches at the bottom of the print ad.
Pressing down on the bottom of the print ad activates bright LED lights, which illuminate the phone in 11 different shades (press on red, the phone lights up red). The ad took over 6 months to create is only available in a limited magazine runs… a costly endeavor we're sure, but one would hope it pays off!
The Green Room Verdict: While the ad was was only featured in 150,000 copies of the magazine, all of which were only available in New York and Chicago, the buzz it's created has circulated the ad all around the globe. Interactivity in print media has reached a new level, that's for sure.
