Restaurant covers babysitter bill while you dine

For busy parents, planning a night out sans kids can be a logistical nightmare, not to mention a little costly in the child-minding department. A restaurant chain in the States, Olive Garden, has an offer that is sure to entice. Their message – "come to our restaurant for dinner, and we'll pick up the babysitting tab". How? By teaming up with a network of children's fitness centers called My Gym.

Dining parents make their reservation by booking their children into a My Gym centre. They make a deposit with the child minders, but this fee is refunded with their Olive Garden receipt at the end of the night. For the obligatory social media inclusion, parents have been asked to share their experiences using #OGParentsNightOut.

The Green Room Verdict: Interesting tactic, but will it work? Tim Nudd, senior editor at Adweek, thinks it's a "fantastic idea. I have three kids myself and I would certainly do this. It's also got great PR value… a wonderful idea that gets people talking." As long as the food, service and restaurant pricing are all on point, we reckon this campaign is pretty clever and sure to deliver great results.
