Gives 'hitting the bottle' a whole new meaning
Kiwis and tourists alike were shocked to find that a small van had crashed into a notable New Zealand landmark, the big L&P bottle, on the weekend. But it wasn't any old van… it was a van belonging to a New Zealand chocolate company, Whittaker's. Coincidence? Well, we now know it was "the accident New Zealand has been waiting for", but it sure caused a fuss on social media sites as well as appearing in the national news.
"We've heard that a Whittaker's delivery vehicle was involved in an accident in Paeroa, but the driver was unharmed" was the message posted on the Whittaker's Facebook page, along with some CCTV footage showing the collision. By Monday the secret was out, along with a promo video for the new Whittaker's flavour – L&P chocolate, complete with fizz.
The Green Room Verdict: We saw someone post an image of the collision on Instagram over the weekend when the stunt was still mysterious, but having the Whittaker's branding so clear on the side of the van (and the crash being so perfectly side-on in relation to the bottle) did raise some alarm bells. It certainly got some attention, and for that we say well done!
