Some television commercials are so quirky, you can't help but love them. Here's an interesting one by Pepsico 'H2Oh!' (a brand of flavoured water popular in South America). The aim of the TVC was to promote the beverage as one the whole family will love – much like the boyfriend in the ad's story, who is being introduced to his girlfriend's family.
In a cute scenario that many of us will have experienced ourselves, the boyfriend talks about his interests and hobbies over a dinner with the could-be in-laws. Sounds pretty normal if not a little nerve-wracking, but the quirkiness is in the way the ad portrays the family's affection for the boyfriend. As each person warms to the suitor, braids of hair appear suddenly from their head, which they begin to twirl – imitating the actions of the doe-eyed girlfriend.
The Green Room Verdict: Besides the obvious, this ad is unique for several reasons: there is no description of the product, nor any footage of the product actually being consumed – the sole focus is on the story, which is unusual for this product category. With a peculiar method of showing the product as a family favourite, this ad is as memorable as it is lovable (and did we mention it won a Gold Film Lion at Cannes this year?).
