Welcome to the museum of you. For some it's an emotional ride, for others it's a creepy wake-up call. No matter how you perceive it, Intel's 'Museum of Me' application is making waves in the virtual world.
The Museum invites you to 'create and explore a visual archive of your social life' by drawing information from your Facebook account. This information includes the friends you interact with most, photos you've uploaded, words on your profile and links you've 'liked'. You are taken on a narcissists dream tour through an exhibit of yourself – all to promote Intel's Core i5 processors, which it plugs at the end of the tour with the line "visualize yourself". A little bit distant from the museum idea, but oh well.
The Green Room Verdict: Though the effect is quite impressive, it is definitely a bit unsettling. Not everyone has jumped at the proposition of sharing their personal Facebook lives for the sake of an advertisement disguised as a social life story. It is worth noting that Intel has a strict privacy policy on the use of your personal Facebook data. Even so, the video really highlights what you've got happening in your Facebook world for people to see. And we reckon that quite a few people will go back through their tagged photos and reconsider what they feature in. That photo from the Western-themed office party 4 years ago ain't looking so hot these days.
